Feb 12th Rock Village Homestay.

Tucked away between pointy limestone karst hills is the Rock Village called because the houses are old restored or new, sympathetically constructed new builds offering basic but comfortable and incredibly friendly hospitality.

The proud oowner of the oldest properties in the commune, she still cooks inside on an open fire with no chimney; the smoke filters out of the ventilation gaps. The property dates back 400 years. There are four generations living here the youngest being a month old her crib is shown below. The nearby river the border with China, is a few km away, the lake of clear water reminiscent of S Ireland west coast.

A few old ladies sport the colourful headscarves and live in older properties most of which collapsed due to poverty and neglect. There is more money about now due to the improved roads and the growth, drying and selling of tobacco & many newer properties have drying towers attached.

We stopped at Knife Village at the knife makers workshop, his blades are made of old car disc brakes. Alex Peet incoming!
